Owakanda Surf Club: A Haven for Surfers of All Levels

In 2023, Damila, a seasoned surfer with over a decade and a half of experience, founded Owakanda Surf Club. His vision was to offer tourists in the Hikkaduwa area an exclusive surfing experience at the serene Owakanda Surf Point.

Nestled in Rathgama, Owakanda is perfectly positioned off Galle Road, about 8 kilometers south of Hikkaduwa and 12 kilometers north of Galle. This idyllic spot offers a refreshing escape from the often crowded surf breaks of Hikkaduwa, especially during peak seasons.

About Damila – Lead Instructor

Damila is our lead surf instructor at Owakanda Surf Club, bringing over 16 years of surfing experience. His journey in surf instruction began with a successful stint at Mambos Surf School, where he spent three years sharing his skills and knowledge.

Damila’s approach to teaching is rooted in his genuine love for surfing and his desire to ensure every student leaves happy and satisfied. He’s known for his straightforward, practical teaching style that makes surfing accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
